Young Investigators

The Perinatal Research Society is privileged to offer young perinatal investigators an exciting opportunity. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development is currently granting support for the purpose of helping defray the attendance expenses of approximately 20 young investigators to our annual meeting. We welcome applications from faculty on behalf of senior post-doctoral fellows or junior faculty who are interested in attending this year's meeting. A young investigator is defined as someone in postdoctoral training or who has completed postdoctoral training within the past seven years.

For young investigators from the United States and Canada, the Society will reimburse 70% of the transportation and shared room and board costs spent to attend the meeting. The home department of the candidate is responsible for guaranteeing the remainder of the expenses. It is very important that the candidate has secure funding in place at the time of acceptance of our offer, as late withdrawal may jeopardize the ability of another worthy candidate to attend the meeting. International Young Investigators (outside the United States and Canada) are invited to apply under the Natus-sponsored international  young investigator program.

The Perinatal Research Society is an international honorary society established in 1969 to foster scientific interchange among persons whose research interests are in the area of perinatal medicine and developmental biology. Pediatricians, obstetricians, and basic scientists are brought together for a two-day meeting to hear presentations by outstanding scientists and subsequent discussion of their scientific work. The original and continuing purpose of the Society is to encourage communication and collaboration between young investigators and those more established, and to provide active and productive interchange between scientists of different disciplines who share a common research interest in perinatal biology.

If you would like to assist a young investigator who would be particularly benefited by attending the meeting, please write to the Perinatal Research Society providing the person's name, curriculum vitae and a short letter indicating why this person would benefit from attending. Please feel free to send additional letters of support. All applications should be submitted electronically.

This year's annual meeting will be held at the Bishop's Lodge Ranch Resort & Spa in Santa Fe, NM on September 26th-28th, 2008.  The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday, May 2nd, 2008.  Click here for the PRS Reimbursement Policies.  If you have any other questions about the program sponsored by the NICHD or about the Perinatal Research Society, please contact Anthony Gregg at the address below.
